How to Care for Your Pet in the Winter – Stonebrook Family Pet
Keeping your pet healthy during the cold winter months can be a challenge. Here are some tips on how to care for them properly:
-
Make sure they have enough water and food. Give them a fresh bowl of water every day, and make sure their food is wet but not sopping wet if its too wet, they may not be able to digest it. Make sure their food has plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits as well as meat or protein. If you have a dog, provide them with plenty of chew toys to keep them entertained; if you have a cat, provide them with scratch posts and lots of hiding places!
-
Keep your pet warm! When temperatures drop below freezing, pets tend to become more sluggish and less active. To keep your pet warm, dress them in layers (a coat over clothes) and provide extra bedding in areas where they spend most of their time (such as under the covers). If possible, try to keep an open fire burning in the fireplace or stove even if its just for part of the day!
-
Stay safe when handling your pet outside during this time of year. Be careful when stepping out into icy sidewalks or driveways; always use caution when walking near parked cars both yours and others’. And finally…never leave your pet unattended inside any car during extreme weather conditions!
