Reviving a Tender Kitten: Life-Saving Care Tips
by Warlax
If you find your kitten has been injured, there are a few things you should do to help it heal. Here is a guide on how to take care of an injured kitten:
-
Clean the wound and surrounding area If your kitten has been bitten or scratched by another animal, clean the wound with soap and water. Gently scrub the area until it is clean. Dont use any harsh chemicals or cleaners because they could irritate the skin even more.
-
Apply a bandage If your kitten has a cut that needs stitches, apply a sterile bandage as follows:
-
Make a small hole in the corner of the adhesive bandage (dont tear it).
-
Wet the edges of the adhesive bandage with water so that it will stick better to the skin.
-
Place adhesive bandage over open wound on Kitty’s back and press down softly so that air bubbles trapped under bandages will be released and closed off surface cuts
-
Hold for about 10 seconds then release
-
Repeat if needed
-
Keep Kitty warm Try not to put too much pressure on wounds because this can cause them to become infected. To keep Kitty warm, place him in a comfortable location such as next to your body or under blankets.
-
Give fluids If your kitten isnt eating or drinking enough fluids, give him small amounts of milk or water mixed with some canned cat food
-
Monitor kitten closely You should keep an eye on your injured kitten while he heals so that you can make sure he doesnt develop any infections. If anything seems wrong, take him to see his veterinarian right away!
