How To Care For Your Pet: 10 Tips For The Busy Dog Owner
by Warlax
When you think of taking care of a pet, what comes to mind? For many people, its feeding them, watering them, and making sure they have enough toys. But there are other things you can do to take good care of your furry friend. Here are ten tips for the busy dog owner.
-
Get them a crate or kennel when theyre young. Puppies need time to learn how to behave and having something safe where they can retreat during the day will help teach them good habits. Crate training is also a great way to keep your house clean since puppies tend not to soil as much when confined.
-
Play with them regularly. Dogs derive happiness from interacting with humans and other animals alike- give them plenty of opportunities to play by providing plenty of chew toys, Kongs filled with treats, or even just an open area in which they can run around freely! A tired dog is a well-behaved dog!
-
Feed them properly. While it may seem like giving your pup scraps from the dinner table is doing him some good (and it probably is!), he needs real food if hes going to stay healthy and happy. Make sure his meals include both quality protein and carbohydrates so that he doesnt develop any health problems down the road. And dont forget about calcium – without it bones can become brittle and teeth may not form normally.
-
Brush their teeth regularly . Not only does brushing their teeth help remove plaque and bacteria from their gums; studies have shown that regular brushing also reduces tooth decay by up to 50%. Just be gentle – overly vigorous brushing can cause damage!
I5) Keep their nails trimmed . Overgrown nails are uncomfortable for dogs AND difficult (if not impossible)to trim yourself- go see your vet or local groomer who will do it for you at minimal cost! Trimming nails once a month should suffice unless your pup gets into too much mischief outdoors whereupon you might need to clip more frequently depending on how rugged his nails are becoming (remember never cut into the quick!).
-
Provide fresh water at all times . This one should be pretty self explanatory but make sure you’re pouring out enough water so that his bowl isn’t overflowing- this could lead him drinking from dirty sources which could introduce harmful parasites or germsinto his system.. And speaking of water… be vigilant about ensuring that Fido doesn’t get into any ponds etc., as this could lead him getting sick especially if he’s not used ot swimming.. Plus if left untreated diarrhea can result in serious health problems such as liver failure in dogs over age 10 years old ! So always bring along plenty of fresh drinking water while away from home too!.
7 ) Exercise regularly . As mentioned before, exercise helps reduce stress levels in dogs plus working off those energy reserves means he won t bark incessantly throughout the day OR monopolize one specific piece of furniture like our couchor worse yet scratch us until we bleed ! A 30 minute walk each day should suffice but if your yard isn t large enough or Fido prefers playing fetch instead then there are countless alternatives available such as interactive games designed specifically for pets such as Doggy Dune which engages both sight & sound capabilities ! Alternatively try investing in an indoor/outdoor activity toy such as The Indoor Flyball Arena which keeps Fido entertained for hours on end indoors without having him running outside constantly! Lastly always be mindful about how much exercise Fido gets overexertinghimcanresultinacondition called exertional rhabdomyolysiswhichisa very serious condition involving muscle breakdown & possible kidney failure !! 8 ) Givethemadequaterest .
