Master Guinea Pig Care: Tips For Achieving Perfection!
by Warlax
There are a few things you need to know before taking on the responsibility of caring for your Guinea Pig. Here we will outline some helpful tips on how to take good care of these adorable creatures.
A guinea pigs life expectancy is around 6-8 years, so it is important to take good care of them from the moment they arrive into your home. Guinea Pigs like to live in groups and should have at least one other guinea pig living with them in order to socialize and play together. If you only have one guinea pig, be sure that he or she has enough space a minimum cage size for a single guinea pig is 24x24x36 inches.
It is also important that their environment is clean and free from drafts. A humidifier can be used if the air in their enclosure becomes too dry. Feeding time should consist of hay, fresh vegetables and fruits, and water ad libitum (or as much as they would drink). DO NOT overfeed your guinea pigs as this can lead to obesity which can cause health problems down the road such as respiratory issues and diabetes mellitus . Exercise your guinea pigs daily by providing them with a small amount of hay or straw inside their pen along with a toy or treat – this will help keep them entertained and active! Lastly, never leave your guinea pigs unattended they may get out of their cages or wander off if left unsupervised.
